Autumn in the Forest of Dean is one of the prettiest times. These photos were taken in very late autumn, 28th November 2009, after leaf-fall but the forest still has very great charm. We did the walk with our dog, Poppy and cat, Misty. As it's a long walk and was wet underfoot, I expected to have to carry Misty frequently. Not a bit of it - every time we cam to a wet bit, if I picked her up, she jumped quickly down and, if we went too far ahead through the mud, she'd shout at us to wait. It was clear she was enjoying the challenge of finding a dry way through the mud!

Trow Ditch at this time was particularly full and pretty.
The next part of the walk is along a very well defined track with lovely views over the River Severn |

East of Edge Hills hamlet (between G and H on the map) is evidently old grassland for here abouts are wax caps, a sign of old meadow. There are also Field Blewits. |
